How you can help your child succeed!
As a life and career coach, I have seen firsthand how children or adults who always say "I don't know" and blaming others tend to grow up with overbearing parents who have always instructed them what to do. This can have a significant impact on their adult life as they constantly await direction in their career and personal life, unsure of how to make decisions for themselves and blame others for their failure.
The key to raising emotionally and mentally healthy children is to expose them to the freedom of choice. As parents, we should provide our children with the necessary guidance and support, but ultimately allow them to make their own decisions, even if it means making mistakes along the way.
As someone who has read the book "How to Raise an Adult" by Julie Lythcott-Haims, I can confidently say that it has the potential to benefit many other parents. The book is an eye-opening guide on how to raise children who are capable of taking care of themselves and making their own decisions.
Lythcott-Haims argues that overbearing parenting styles can have a negative impact on children's development, making them overly reliant on their parents and unable to function independently. She provides practical advice on how to break free from this parenting style and instead encourages parents to become coaches or mentors, providing support and guidance to their children but allowing them to make their own decisions.
One of the most valuable aspects of the book is how it addresses the issue of helicopter parenting. It explains how parents can inadvertently stunt their children's development by not allowing them to take risks, learn from their mistakes, and grow as individuals. The book stresses the importance of teaching children to be responsible for themselves, even if it means allowing them to fail at times.
I believe that other parents can benefit from reading this book as it provides a practical roadmap on how to transition from overprotective and controlling parenting to one that encourages independence and self-sufficiency. By learning to take a step back and provide guidance and support instead of micromanaging, parents can help their children become confident, independent, and successful adults.
Furthermore, giving children the freedom to make their own choices helps them develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, which are invaluable in the modern world. As a result, they are more likely to succeed in their careers, have better relationships, and enjoy a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
As a life and career coach, I believe that exposing children to the freedom of choice is essential for their emotional and mental well-being, personal growth, and success in life. I want to see more people for other reasons and not because the sentence 'I don't know'.
